Andy's Frame & Motor Swap
Since Chrysler decided to put holes in the side of the frame and no holes on the bottom, most TJs accumulate a lot of crud in the bottom of the box tubing. My Jeep had 90,000 miles on it when I got it and most of those miles were commuter driving in the salty road conditions of Rockland County. I did drill some holes in the lower portion of the frame after I took ownership. I was able to flush out the crud but it was too little too late.
So, with a long winter ahead, a new frame from Chrysler, and a new ATK Motor, I'm setting out to put a new foundation in this rig.
Save the Firetower Support
The Hudson Valley's own Mt Beacon has a rich and story filled past, since before the USA was the USA. For the past 10+ years, it was closed to motorized vehicles, and the only public access is hiking to enjoy it's exciting views. An old abandon firetower is at the highest point on the mountain is being resotres by a group of volunteers. When complete, it will afford hikers an even more majestic 100 mile view.
The firetower restoration effort requires occasional hauling of materials up or down the mountain. HV4W is now allowed to help the Friends of the Firetower with their cargo needs.
These photos are of our first trip in Sept 2010 to haul up new cross bracing steel. More trips will be needed periodically as the firetower work continues. HV4W is the only off-road orginizations that can legally wheel on Mt Beacon, only to do work of course.
2009: Various Rides
HV4W went on quite a few rides in 2009. Here are some members photos and comments.
NOVA's Trailfest
Each August The Alliance of area clubs holds Trailfest, usually in central MA. Here are various photos taken by HV4W members at the event.
Winter Snow Rides
HV4W members came out of hibernation to play in the snow and ice. We had some beautiful winter scenes, good CB chatter and a whole lot of fun. While it was only 11 degrees outside, we were invited by some nice local folk to warm up by their fireplace. Here are some photos from the three trails we were on.
Rausch Creek, from Various Trips
We do two long weekend trips to Rausch Creek Park in PA each year, one in May and another in Oct. These are photos with comments from a few of those recent trips.
Food Drive and Toys4Tots Rides
In early November, HV4W members and prospective members participated in a charitable Food Drive run by the Berkshire 4 Wheelers and supported by the Northeast Offorad Vehicle Alliance (NOVA). In early December, the Eastern 4 Wheelers and Jeeps & Trucks 4x4 offered Toys-4-Tots rides at two private land trails.
Truck Building 101
Many members do their own work on their trucks, everything from simple bumper swaps to building full custom trucks from essentially a pile of parts. Here are some examples.
Tony's YJ Stretch Project
Club Member Tony Pané is building a hard core off-road truck based upon a stretched YJ. Watch the progress. Hover your mouse over the photos to see the captions.
